Anne-Laure Roy is a French artist known for her creative exploration of cultural and domestic themes through photography and mixed media. Her project Domesticity is an introspective series reflecting on the dynamics of everyday life within the home. The project uses staged photography to capture intimate, familiar moments and contrasts them with elements of surrealism or commentary on societal expectations of domestic spaces.

“Lately, I’ve begun referring to my mothering and household duties as work—work that is unpaid, unseen by society, without days off or the option to resign. I call it work because no one else does, and because my children won’t fully understand its weight until they become parents themselves”.

“In this series, I use symbols of domestic labor to reflect on the manual and emotionalnurturing required to grow a family. By reimagining these objects—turning them intovases for delicate, fragile flowers, softening their industrial designs, and drapingthem in tender hues—I transform them. I give them a “glow-up,” infusing beauty andrecognition into the uncelebrated tools of care”.

“Shot during the spring, this series is bathed in its soft light and framed by theseason’s abundant blooms. Visiting a local flower farm became a cherished ritual, where Charles, the flower farmer, patiently shared the names of his blossoms. Thisnewfound habit lingers—I now gift my husband a weekly bouquet, because I too canbuy him flowers”.
