Ioan De Moisa, Birds Singing in the Snow, Pastel and charcoal on paper,130 × 224 cm, 2024

Ioan De Moisa mainly paints human gatherings and landscapes. Through the act of painting, the artist looks to enter the spiritual realm and pose the ultimate questions of life, “Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? Why are we what we are?” His gaze penetrates the superficial structure to uncover the deeper essence. The landscape works, imbued with profound emotions, display distinct geographical features as metaphors for internal moments derived from the human experience, and also serve as a jumping-off point for the artist’s self-exploration.

About the Artist

Ioan De Moisa was born in 1989 in Transylvania, Romania and currently lives in Cluj Napoca. In recent years, Moisa has travelled and lived in Bali, Indonesia and several African nations to broaden his horizon. He’s produced a series of pastel and watercolor drawings that serve as the visual diary for his journey abroad. These travel drawings co-exist along his large studio paintings and the two develop a level of intertextuality.

Mind Set Art Center is pleased to announce the solo exhibition Escaping Landscape by Taiwanese artist YANG Yu-Ning, which marks her first solo exhibition at the gallery. Escaping Landscape is set to put on display 18 of YANG’s recent ink brush paintings. In YANG’s paintings, the memories are like scattered fragments that, along with actual landscapes which are not merely an objective existence, reconstruct a unique visual experience. The exhibition will run from 9 August through 12 September 2024. An opening reception is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, 10 August. You are cordially invited to join us.

In recent years, YANG has been trying to push the boundaries of ink brush painting. She uses overnight ink and paper to create a new way of interaction between water, ink and image. This opens up a new perspective on the medium. In Escaping Landscape, YANG focuses on landscapes and plants, and further exploring the delicate connections among images and imagination as visual and sensorial mediums.

About The Artist

YANG Yu-Ning was born in 1990, graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Tunghai University, and currently lives and works out of Taichung City. In 2016 and 2017, YANG took art residency in Finland and Taitung, and exhibited her works at the Taitung Art Museum and Taiwan Annual. In 2021, YANG was selected by the Tianmei Art Foundation for a program to visit New York. She received the top prize at the 2022 TDCC Contemporary Art Award. YANG’s practice is rooted in her subjective visual awareness. She often uses overnight ink on paper and makes fine adjustments between light and dark hues in order to express her thoughts and sensibilities. With her fine touches, YANG conveys the reflections on and connections to the life of a younger generation.
