Speaking to the significance of classic cinema, founder of Cinema Akil, Butheina Kazim said:
With the summer travel season upon us, Cinema Akil is traveling through time in our longest repertory program yet. Building on the success of our 2020 summer travel-themed classics program. In 2021, we’re harnessing that power of cinema that allows audiences to travel to places, universes, life experiences and through time. We wanted to offer our audience of film lovers a wonderful opportunity to catch their all-time favorite films or discover classic cinema they’ve always wanted to see on the big screen right here in Dubai.
The diverse program will also showcase a variety of award-winning classic films from Italy, South Korea, Senegal, Germany and France in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture in Abu Dhabi, the Korean Cultural Centre in Abu Dhabi, the Goethe Institut and Institute Français. The iconic program includes Paris, Texas by Wim Wenders (1984), The Housemaid (1960) and Touki Bouki (1973) by Djibril Diop Mambéty referenced by Beyonce and Jay-Z in their On the Run II tour.
