The anticipated The Phantom of the Opera has finally arrived to Dubai and we could not be more excited about it! It is definitely a musical not to miss, whether you are an opera lover or a first timer.
The Premiere on the 16th of October was a great success followed by an extravagant masquerade party on the opening night. Dubai residents and visitors immediately fell in love with the captivating performances from Jonathan Roxmouth, Claire Lyon, and Matt Leisy.
The worldwide famous story of the love triangle was beautifully shared by the actors. Every moment during the opera the viewers felt the love or the pain and jealousy of the main characters.
In an exclusive interview with Arte & Lusso Jonathan Roxmouth has shared that he could relate to the Phantom as he was a bit of an outsider himself as during his childhood. Bullied for being overweight, he would find refuge in playing music on a piano in his school after classes. One can feel that the character is very close to Jonathan, who uses his brilliant and intense voice to fill the entire theatre with the pain of solitude and jealousy of the Phantom.
The rising star Claire Lyon beautifully played female protagonist ‘Christine Daaé’, portraying the two different types of love her character was feeling for the Phantom and Raoul. Matt Leisy nailed the role of Raoul Vicomte de Chagny and their duet singing “All I Ask you” was very emotional and touching.
About the Phantom of the Opera
With 130 cast, crew and orchestra members, jaw-dropping scenery, breathtaking special effects and more than 230 costumes by the late international designer Maria Bjornson, The Phantom of the Opera contains some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most famous and stirring music, including “The Music of the Night”, “All I Ask of You”, “Think of Me”, and “The Phantom of the Opera”. The original cast recording, with over 40 million copies sold worldwide, is the best-selling cast recording of all time.
Based on the classic novel Le Fantome de L’Opera by Gaston Leroux, the haunting story of The Phantom of the Opera tells the tale of a musical genius known only as the Phantom who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerised by the talent and beauty of a young soprano, Christine, the Phantom lures her as his protege and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine’s love for Raoul, the Phantom’s obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness and passions collide.

Eric (The Phantom) is super genius and charming, but due to physical ugliness he is not allowed to be loved, his fate is forced loneliness without hope of success.
Eric was on his knees because he deified Christina, placed her in front of him as a kind of godness, a muse. A man who curses, cries and prays for love … He is a very passionate and strong personality for a 16-year-old romantic girl.
The phantom ventured to be happy, but did not guess, because appearance takes precedence over genius.
His hero realized that love is, above all, happiness for another. If a man loves, he will wish his beloved only happiness, and Eric understood that his love for Christina is destructive, that she will not make his muse happy. Therefore, he allowed Christine to marry Raul. Moreover, he already achieved Christina’s consent to marriage, and there was no sense in making her unhappy anymore. The phantom knew that Christine would be his faithful wife, the best wife, but unhappy. This made him let the girl go. That is the meaning of main character of this story.
What an accurate depiction of the Phantom and his love for Christine

I don’t have a fave character, in fact I’ve never seen Phantom of the opera but hopefully I will win your completion and get a chance to finally see it as I’ve only ever heard good things.

Destiny
I like the character Of Phantom. The vibe he has is incomparable with anything else! Would love to see the act …
i like most The phantom character .
I’ve always dreamed to see the Phantom of the Opera. I even got a CD with the music and know all the songs by heart! My favourite character of course is the Phantom. Such tragedy behind this character. And such a great heart he has. I really wish I will be able to see the show very soon.
Eric as a character for his passion, his sour soul and his feelings.
I have never seen before The Phantom of Opera but would love to. I heard it’s an amazing show and hopefully will win the tickets to watch it.
My favorite character is Eric. As incredibly talented, smart man with a good voice & manners. He is full of mystery which keeps all readers and viewers on their toes. Genius guy even though with a tough destiny.
Favorite character is of course, Erik! You love him, you hate him – the character development and the eponymous track that leaves us all in awe – he is the heart and soul of the show and he and Christine’s story is why the Phantom of the Opera has been critically acclaimed all these years. I hope I get to see it all come alive! x
My favorite character is Carlotta.
People often overlook it but Christine never wanted to be the star of the show nor would she have gotten the spotlight if the Erik didn’t play dirty tricks on Carlotta. While unlikeable for most, Carlotta is my favorite because she is a strong independent woman with a strong personality who knows what she deserves and makes sure the world knows it. #NOT-a-damsel-in-distress #strongindependentwoman
A friend of mine has already attended the show and indeed was significantly impressed, while myself I have never seen it. And I assume that once watched I would like Eric too, as noble man with all the mystery around…
Phantom of the Opera is my favorite show! My most favorite character is Erik. You never know what else to expect from him! And he has strong and “crazy” personality.
The phantom is my favorite character
Christine, because despite being given a grave choice between her freedom and Raoul, still chose to be show kindness and compassion, moving the heart of the Phantom.
I don’t have a favorite character. I’ve never seen Phantom of the opera ;(( I hope I will win this competition and get a chance to finally see it.
I watched a movie long time back, but the impression of the magical story is still in my mind and i think life performance on the stage takes it to completely different level! I believe that the evening with “Phantom of The Opera” Would be an amazing and unforgettable cultural expetience in Dubai Opera. It would be 100% my type of the perfect evening in Dubai!
My favourite is Claire Lyon and Matt Leisy.
I have seen their videos on dubai opera site but never gotta chance to see them perform live.
I would be truly blessed to win with you dear @arte8lusso???
My favorite character would have to be The Phantom whose real name is Eric. His character is mysterious and conflicted. He had an awful childhood. Was displayed as a freak, the living corpse in a gypsy fair. There are plenty of hints in the book that he does not wish to remember his childhood as it was a very dark time of his life. He was horribly mistreated and tortured by humanity and it is no surprise that he snapped eventually. He truly loved Christine unlike, in my opinion, Raoul, and when it all came down to it, he didn’t want Christine to suffer. He let her go, so that she could live a life where people accepted her when they wouldn’t accept him…
