As every resident of Almaty I was ultra excited about the opening of the Almaty Museum of Arts and what made my recent trip even more special was the discovery of Cafe Alma, the restaurant located right inside the museum.

The elegant atmosphere wrapped me in a nostalgic embrace where childhood memories mixed with the excitement of something new. The interior and menu both play on familiar flavors from childhood, but with a refined European touch that felt both comforting and exciting.

The menu is designed to appeal to all generations—reviving favorites we grew up with like Baursaks while also presenting a range of international classics like Italian pastas and French desserts . It is clear that Alma isn’t just a convenient stop for museum-goers, but a destination in its own right. Families will be especially pleased: there’s a children’s menu thoughtfully prepared in three languages, making it accessible and welcoming for little visitors from abroad.

One of the standout features is the terrace. Overlooking the modern side of Almaty, with sweeping views of the Nurlytau complex, it’s the kind of setting that makes you want to linger long after your meal, savoring both the food and the scenery.

As for the culinary highlights, the burrata was fresh and indulgent, a perfect start. The chicken and mushroom fettuccine struck just the right balance of hearty and delicate, showcasing Alma’s ability to elevate comfort food. But it was dessert that truly stole the show: a perfectly crisp waffle cone filled with raspberries—a simple pleasure turned into a memorable finale.

Whether you’re visiting the museum or simply seeking a beautiful spot to dine, Alma deserves a place on your list. With its nostalgic charm, family-friendly spirit, and terrace views that frame the city in a new light, it’s a restaurant that brings together culture, comfort, and culinary delight in one unforgettable experience.

Nargiz Snadina, partner and brand manager of cafe Alma:

The cafe Alma Almaty Museum of Arts concept was conceived as a continuation of the dialogue between gastronomy and art. Сafe Alma has already established itself as a project where cuisine, aesthetics, and cultural context work together in harmony. Its opening inside the museum became a natural step forward: the restaurant blends seamlessly into the atmosphere of the space, supporting its mission — to make art more accessible.

Here, gastronomy becomes a natural extension of art. After exploring the exhibition, guests can stay in the café, where, in a calm and elegant setting, their impressions of the artworks are complemented by another sensory dimension — taste.

Сafe Alma is also a story about love for Almaty — a city with a rich past and dynamic present that continues to inspire the project. In the menu, the interior, and the very philosophy of the café, one can feel both respect for local roots and a drive toward modernity — just like in the art showcased within the museum.
