Bassam Freiha Art Foundation Unveils New Exhibitions Showcasing Contemporary Emirati Abstraction, Orientalist Art, and Monumental Sculptures

Bassam Freiha Art Foundation (BFAF) will open a series of new exhibitions exploring Emirati abstract art, the Orientalist movement, challenging societal norms and monumental sculptures from famed artist Anthony James this October.

Visitors will be able to explore the four exhibitions, held across the Main Gallery, Annex Gallery and Sculpture Garden, and attend events as part of the supporting educational programme from 14 October.

Stefano Bombardieri at Oblong Contemporary

Stefano Bombardieri, born in Brescia in 1968, is an artist known worldwide for his bold and evocative sculptures of wild animals and majestic pachyderms. Distinguished by a unique style that combines joy, a touch of irony, and a clear sense of disillusionment, Bombardieri invites us to deep reflection on our relationship with nature and the ecosystem. He challenges our critical sense, prompting us to consider crucial issues related to the precarious balance of the human being in the modern world and the existential challenges that we must face daily.

Brâncuși: Romanian Sources and Universal Perspectives

This exhibition devoted to the famous sculptor Brâncuși, considered the father of modern sculpture, is the first of its scale in this part of Europe in the last 50 years. Curated by Doïna Lemny, one of the most respected experts on the art of Constantin Brâncuși, this exhibition-event will bring together in Romania more than 100 works by Brâncuși, many of which are being exhibited for the first time in his native country.

Ithra and Royal Commission for AlUla Partner to Accelerate Growth of the Kingdom’s Creative Industries

The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) are excited to invite entries for the 6th edition of the Ithra Art Prize under a comprehensive partnership to promote and grow the arts and cultural industries across Saudi Arabia. The open call for the prize, which comes with a grant of $100,000, closes on September 31, 2023. The winning artwork will be unveiled during the AlUla Arts Festival in February 2024.

La Chiesa di Sant’Aspreno ai Crociferi Riapre al Pubblico: Nasce il Museo Jago

Sabato 20 maggio 2023, dalle ore 18:00 alle ore 20:00, lo scultore Jago e la Cooperativa La Paranza, riapriranno al pubblico la Chiesa di Sant’Aspreno ai Crociferi, dando vita al museo Jago, dove, tra le varie opere, sarà esposta la Pietà, di ritorno al suo luogo d’origine dopo una serie di fortunate mostre, e dove verrà svelato per la prima volta il nuovo gruppo scultoreo di Aiace e Cassandra. Per la serata inaugurale l’ingresso sarà gratuito e vedrà la presenza dell’artista, mentre dal 21 maggio si potrà prenotare il biglietto, che permette l’accesso anche al Figlio Velato custodito presso la Basilica di San Severo fuori le mura, tramite il sito di Catacombe di Napoli.
