Art4you Gallery will present a unique virtual art exhibition celebrating the mixed media work of contemporary artists bought together from all around the world in one platform this Dec 20, 2020.
‘A Little of this, A Little of that’ – will explore the presence of the 25 Dubai based and international artists with a selection of 40 engaging works in a stream of consciousness, visual style, and abstractions. Breathing new life into found objects, collaging different materials to create conversations between texture & content with abstract styles, Art4you Gallery will honor the mixed media theme by used different types of materials such as plastic, textile, fabric and glass.
“Being interested in contemporary art, I have likely seen the words “mixed media” in a gallery or museum without always knowing what that phrase entails. It turns out you are not alone, and I am here to help demystify what those two words really mean…The term “mixed media” is used to describe artworks composed of a combination of different materials – and this could be a wide range of items. While the term itself is relatively new, the practice of combining different media dates to antiquity,” explains the curator, Jesno Jackson.
“Mixed media is not a modern phenomenon. What we consider today to be “mixed media” has developed from less experimental methods and materials– think Da Vinci mixing pastels with ink or Degas combining pastels and charcoal, to what we see today, which often goes beyond traditional artistic materials to include unconventional materials and objects – from aluminum to zippers to a large installation, anything goes!”
The exhibition will feature works across various media to showcase what this new generation of mixed media artists are doing with their work to create a space for advancing the public’s awareness and appreciation of this interdisciplinary field. Mixed media artists are routinely pushing the boundaries of materials and concept by exploring new technologies, techniques, aesthetics, and crossing disciplinary borders.
“(It) is a continuously evolving form, mixed media allows for a liberty of expression, and often emphasizes process as much as product. Mixed media allows artists to continue to push the boundaries of art using non-traditional media. The term captures a wide range of definitions.”, says Jackson.
The exhibition has selected works where the artists have not been limited, and where they are not afraid to push these boundaries by being inventive in process, technique, material, and concept. Work from any media was accepted including all contemporary craft. Art4you are pleased to announce the exhibition, and look forward to representing this excellent and eclectic field to the viewers.
The works fall into one of four categories: installation art, sculpture, industrial design, and paintings. The exhibit is open to all until the Jan 28, 2021.
