Salem Alshamsi is a self-taught artist based in Abu Dhabi. Alongside being a full time lawyer Salem teaches Law at Sorbonne University. He pursued fashion at Central Saint Martin in London, where he discovered deep interest in fashion illustration courses.
Mojgan Endiavi Barbe, curator of Salem Alshamsi’s DECODING, says: “This exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Salem’s late aunt Maryam, who taught the artist the “appreciation of beauty in life”.
In Salem Alshamsi’s paintings and sculptures, one encounters a blend of repetitive patterns, geometric elements, and enigmatic Arabic calligraphy unfolds, captivating viewers with its unreadable allure.
Salem’s painting is organically organized like a mathematical formula, colors find their rightful place and the cubic shapes, which become three-dimensional in the sculptures, have a strong impact. A certain musicality is recognized within his works that comes from his being a musician.

Through art, Salem strives to communicate and illustrate first-hand emotion as a therapeutical medium to express significant events in his life in order to re-write them and experience them differently, and perhaps, with more joy.
Salem had two successful solo shows, in Sorbonne University and in the Spanish pavilion of EXPO Dubai.
You can visit the exhibition from May 13th to June 5th 2023 at Zidoun & Bussuyt Gallery, Dubai.
