Skydive Dubai broke the record for the largest flag flown while in freefall (skydiving), not once but twice in one day.

Skydive Dubai added another honor to its name as it took its existing tally of Guinness World Records to a proud six, last week.

On Thursday, November 25, 2019, Skydive Dubai broke the record for the largest flag flown while in freefall (skydiving), not once but twice in one day.

For its first attempt, a team of five skydivers exited an aircraft at 13,000 ft before proudly unfurling the national flag of the United Arab Emirates measuring at 106.025 sq. m, while a pair of wingsuiters spiraled their way around the moving quintet with smoke cannisters making it a truly visual spectacle. Two camera flyers flew alongside to document the attempt for the record books.

The skydivers managed to fly the flag for more than 10 seconds before releasing it to the safety of the waters below and landing back at Skydive Dubai’s Palm Dropzone. The flag was retrieved under the supervision of the Guinness World Records team to ensure no foul play.

Within half an hour of the official Guinness World Records adjudicator and surveyor announcing the new record, the team took to the skies for a second time to better their achievement with a UAE national flag that measured 144.282 sq. m. This time the skydivers managed to keep the flag flying for all to see for more than 30 seconds.

Once again, the flag was released safely, and the team landed back to the Palm Dropzone. The flag was once again retrieved and measured by the adjudicator and surveyor who then declared the successful accomplishment.

A representative for the team later explained that they took inspiration from Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. “As His Highness says, ‘the word impossible is not in our dictionary, no matter how big the challenges are, determination helps us overcome them’. We took inspiration from those words to help us achieve what we did today.”

Skydive Dubai has always endeavored to proudly represent Dubai and the UAE on the global stage. With the successful completion of this record, Skydive Dubai continues to live up to its vision to push the boundaries and strive for excellence.
