Directed by Emirati performance artist and theatre practitioner, Reem Almenhali, and commissioned by ADMAF, the play will be performed in Arabic with English subtitles, showcasing emerging Emirati talent and narratives shaping modern Emirati identity.
Rooted in Emirati culture through its workplace references and humor, Hamour is an absurd play that uses satire to critique real-life bureaucratic inconveniences faced by employees globally. With two cast members being NYUAD alumni or part of the Arts Center’s Numoo cohort, this production is rich with unique experiences and insights from the local ecosystem, and has involved premiere UAE entities in its delivery.
Notably, Hamour is commissioned by ADMAF and backed by the Ministry of Culture National Grants Program. Having also been developed at M39 in the MIZA district with input from NYUAD theater majors, Hamour represents a collective effort at the heart of the UAE’s arts and culture ecosystem to critique workplace practices in a creative and community-minded way.
