Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who lived and worked at the end of the 19th century. In just 10 years, he created 930 paintings, 1,100 drawings and sketches. During his lifetime, Van Gogh’s work never gained recognition. He sold only a few paintings while he was alive, and died in poverty and obscurity. Today, Van Gogh tops the list of the world’s most famous and recognisable artists — even those who don’t know much about fine arts recognise his artworks. Van Gogh’s paintings are
traditionally the most expensive and coveted lots at any auction.

His art inspires people all around the world. Now, ToDA presents a rare opportunity for art aficionados to experience ‘Being VAN GOGH’ like never before. This immersive show transports you right to the inner world, dreams, hopes and fears of the great artist. The true story based on van Gogh’s letters to his brother Theo accompanies the immersive show. Performed by an actor, the narrative is visualised through a curated selection of Van Gogh’s outstanding artworks projected on giant wall and ceiling screens, completely engaging the audience with beautiful music accompanying stunning visuals.

‘Being VAN GOGH’ recreates the most productive period of the artist’s life, when he moved to Arles in the South of France. This period was full of hope, ideas and artistic inventions. Van Gogh dreamt of creating the Southern Studio, where he could shape the art of the future along with his fellow artists. His most recognisable works were made during this time: The Sunflowers (1888), Café Terrace At Night (1888), The Bedroom (1889), Starry Night Over Rhone (1889) and several others. This was the time when Van Gogh acquired his unique style. It is fair to say that this period was a culmination of the artist’s life and work.

‘Being VAN GOGH’ the epic highlights many important aspects of the artist’s life and work: his relationships with brother and family, his ambitions and disappointments, his poverty and devotion to work, his artistic search and doubts, memories and presentiments. The highly impassioned script, based on Van Gogh’s letters, invites the audience to explore the artist’s innermost emotions in his own words. There is no fiction — just an intimate talk by the artist himself. This approach enables visitors to understand the life and art of the great master in the most unadulterated manner.

The paintings of the great artist are on display in galleries and private collections all across the world. To capture them in one exhibition is almost an impossible challenge.
